Announcing the 2025 Challenge Results
Action With Africa Advanced Projects
Following an inspiring virtual final on 19 August 2025, we are proud to announce the six top-performing teams of this year’s Action With Africa Challenge. The ranking has been determined by an international jury based on the project team’s comprehensive submissions and presentations.

Here are the TOP 6 teams and their respective project funding:

EcoGuard | Tunis Business School | Tunisia
Tackling Tunisia’s most destructive pests through nature-based pest control solutions to support sustainable farming.
» 2nd Place – EUR 7,500
IThemba | National University of Science and Technology | Zimbabwe
This project addresses climate change and fuel shortages in Zimbabwe by converting plastic waste into diesel and paraffin through pyrolysis.
» 3rd Place – EUR 5,000
Plastix | Minia University | Egypt
Addressing the plastic waste crisis by transforming recycled plastic into durable, eco-friendly construction bricks.
» 4th-6th Place – EUR 2,500 each
Biot | Bindura University of Science Education | Zimbabwe
Upcycling poultry feathers into nutrient-capturing hydrogels, super-absorbents for sanitary products and protein-rich animal feeds.
Ecovolt | Kaduna Polytechnic | Nigeria
Repurposing electronic waste into affordable, rechargeable energy devices like extension outlets and solar-powered banks.
Taka Taka Zero | Durham University | UK
Safely incinerating non-recyclable waste to power a community cooker, producing affordable bread and porridge in Kenya.
Action With Africa Early-stage Winners
In addition to the main awards, we are pleased to highlight the TOP 3 early-stage projects, recognized for their promising potential and innovative approaches:
Xytocan | Minia University | Egypt
Transforming Egypt’s sugarcane bagasse waste into xylitol – a natural, sugar-free sweetener that’s safe for diabetics. It shall reduce CO₂ emissions, replace costly imports, and support local farmers and women through sustainable production hubs.
NeemPest | Ahmadu Bello University | Nigeria
Developing an organic farm input that acts as both a bio-pesticide and crop enhancer. It targets key pests in Nigeria’s maize and tomato crops using natural ingredients like neem and spinosad, while creating jobs for women in local communities.
️FortiBites | University of Calabar | Nigeria
Combating infant malnutrition with a nutrient-rich superfood powder for children aged 6–24 months. Using locally sourced ingredients and essential fortificants like iron and zinc, it shall support healthy development and aims to break the cycle of poverty linked to malnutrition.
